The main elements to consider when building a house are:

Thermal Performance:

Expressed as a U-value W / m2 / K

This is the measurement of how good the insulation properties are of the walls, roof, floor and windows of the building structure

From todays building control standard of 0.35 W / m2 / K for walls To a passivehaus standard of 0.11 W / m2 / K (see Supawall below)

Air tightness:

Achieved by using membranes taped at every junction to prevent air and heat loss

Ventilation:

Mechanical heat recovery ventilation is usually the best option and on occassions a passive ventilation stack may be used.

Setanta's leading product is the
"Maple Supawall" U-Value 0.11

We recommend the "Maple Supawall" build up to all of our clients though some may opt for a lesser
u-value achieved using a combination of other insulation materials.

Other materials used

  • Cullulose (recycled newspaper)
  • Rockwool or other mineralwools
  • Polystyrene boards
  • Foil backed PUI Boards (Kingspan or other)
