Timber frame homes crafted with care and designed to make a statement… Full Electric House
Project Overview
-
Our clients opted for an all-electric home based on their extensive knowledge and expertise of the renewable energy industry, having worked at the forefront of the sector for many years. They approached Setanta Construction aware of our strong reputation as a sector leader on sustainability and our many years’ construction experience manufacturing bespoke, energy efficient homes.
Designed by John Kennedy Architects our clients’ objective was to build a two-storey timber-frame home, powered solely by electricity, that would epitomise the best in energy efficiency and help significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Harnessing solar power, alongside smart energy technology combined with a highly efficient thermal envelop they are hopeful that their home will remain powered through all seasons. By integrating these systems and practices, they aim to live in a fully electric home, relying only on sustainable energy sources, thus reducing their dependence on fossil fuels and traditional utilities.

The four-bedroom, c2,000sq ft home, was completed in December 2024 and has been entirely designed around a fossil fuel free approach to energy, with the building fabric and energy systems working together to minimise demand and maximise the value of renewable electricity.
The home incorporates 7kW of solar PV generation, alongside an 18kWh battery storage system, allowing renewable electricity generated during the day to be retained for use when it is most valuable.
Its energy systems are complemented by mechanical ventilation and heat recovery, while wastewater heat recovery technology is used on the showers.
Smart energy optimisation enables the household to make better use of both solar generation and lower cost grid electricity; including directing available energy towards battery and EV charging.
Other highlights include:
Triple glazing
Solar PV

We wanted a home that was really comfortable and easy to live in and that’s exactly what we’ve ended up with. It just makes everyday life feel comfortable and effortless. And it’s reassuring to know when we hear about another tariff hike or diesel price rise, we’re much less affected. So much of our energy comes from our own renewable generation and battery storage, which gives us a lot more peace of mind.”
Having worked with Setanta Construction on previous business projects, they have a proven track record in sustainable and innovative building practices, as well as a deep understanding of modern electrical systems. Not only were they able to execute the technical aspects of a full electric home, but their expertise was also invaluable in selecting the best materials, integrating the latest energy-efficient technologies, and adhering to all necessary regulations. We felt at ease knowing that every decision made reflected their dedication to excellence with a focus on consistency, precision, and a strong sense of responsibility.
